Infants

The infant room at Chautauqua Day School is designed for optimum care for children ages 6 weeks to 24 months.

The environment is designed to stimulate and promote healthy sensory integration.  It is our policy that an infant can not be held or "loved on" enough.  Our infants build close bonds with their teachers and peers through play.  Each child has the opportunity to rest and play on the schedule set by his or her parents.  We will follow all directives given to us by parents for the best care of every infant.

Daily activities include music, sound blocks and song time.  We us flash cards and photographs to stimulate visual recognition. There are  educational manipulative toys and building materials for children to explore.

There is a refrigerator in the classroom for parents to provide formula, milk and infant food. The children eat together 'family style" in our dining area in the main hall of the school.  We treat the babies to nutritious snacks 3 to 6 times a day.  Every child has his or her own cup to promote healthy hydration throughout the day.

Nursing mothers are always welcome to come to feed their children at school.  We reserve our garden cottage for your time together.

We encourage all family members to visit us during the day.  We would love to have you come in and play, read a story or sing with us.  You can make our days with your infant even more meaningful.

Infant care specialists are Kathleen Allison Director of the school.  Kathleen has an infant daughter in the classroom and is in there often to play and interact with all of the babies.  Kathleen has highly specialized training in infant care health, safety and development.

Amber Mann is the Nursery Director.  She holds a degree in music, theater and is certified through special training in infant care and safety.

Sarah Mullins holds a degree in social work.  She also has special training in infant care.

Parents can always call teachers during the day to check up on their babies.  We send home notes to remind parents of items that may be needed  and to let them know of their infants accomplishments during the day.

Your most precious infant is safe, happy, clean, and joyful in our care.
