Discipline Policy

“Discipline is training that develops self control, character and social competence.”  It is derived from the word Disciple.  Teachers and students in Chautauqua act in exemplary way to demonstrate appropriate behavior.

The only method of discipline at Chautauqua Day School is “time out.”  A child is sent to time out for any violent action, cruelty, or rude behavior.  One minute of sitting or standing for every year of life.

A child never goes to time out without fully understanding why.  A teacher or assistant waits nearby to reinforce positive behavior when their time out is over.

A child may be asked to go to the “crying for no reason chair.”  This usually remedies the situation quickly.

An “office talk” is time out in the office with the director.  This version is reserved for more serious offences or repeat offenders.

Parents will be notified if a conference is necessary.  If a medical or developmental evaluation is recommended, it must be scheduled within a month of the request.  Every effort will be make in confidence to support the family and child to obtain the most appropriate care.

Attendance Policy

Chautauqua Day School hours of operation are from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Please call the school if your child will be late or absent for any reason.

There is a $1.00 per minute fee per child for every minute a parent or guardian is late to pick up a child.  No exceptions.

If a child leaves early for any reason and there are siblings at the school, all of the children in the same family must leave at the same time.

Annual parents meetings and conferences are mandatory.  These meeting are part of school licensure if a parent or guardian does not attend, the registered child will be released from Chautauqua Day School.

For the silent auction, every family finds items to be auctioned.  You may also volunteer to organize the event.  The funds raised purchase equipment and educational tools for the children.

Every January is Art and Artists Month at Chautauqua Day School.  Each child works to make beautiful art projects under our ‘Art Makes Me Smart’ program.  In February we turn the school into an art gallery.  We host an art show where family and friends come and purchase the children’s art.  This event raises money for more art supplies.
